Agricultural production is increasingly vulnerable to climate variability, with extreme weather events such as hailstorms causing significant damage and loss to the sector.

Hailstorms can have a devastating impact on crops, severely affecting plant health and diminishing harvests. When new plants are sprouting, hail damage can completely destroy seedlings. Even later in the season, hail can reduce yields by knocking fruit off plants before they mature.

To mitigate these challenges, we have developed Hailnets—a protective solution for agriculture that can be effectively used, particularly for high-value crops. These nets, when placed above the crops, provide crucial protection from hail. Evaluating their effectiveness involves considering factors such as hail climatology, the microclimatic effects of the cover, the durability of the material, and the associated installation costs.
